Raquelle K. Bostow
What I did:
I was previously a regular contributor to Smart Women Write, a blog that explores the writing process and forays in academia. The selected posts below highlight my thoughts on:
-
overcoming writing obstacles
-
overlaps between literature and contemporary events
-
working with students on digital projects
Why I did it:
To shine light on:
-
taboo topics of writing stalls and the difficulties of publishing in academic journals.
-
how literature helps us to understand systemic and political racial injustice.
-
how to develop and manage digital projects with undergraduates in the university system.

Impact:
My writing has brought 1,000+ readers to the blog.

What I did:
As Managing Editor of Wonders & Marvels, a broad-interest history website, I was the key-contact of this collaborative blog. In this role, I was responsible for day-to-day maintenance of the site. I also formatted and proofread digital posts in WordPress and copyedited posts and monthly newsletters.
I also solicited timely blog posts from academic and non-academic authors, such as the one that you see above, "A Jewish Writer Revived By Her Daughters."

Why I did it:
To create an environment where specialists and non-specialists could come together to discuss–and think critically–about the past.

Impact:
I maintained the site's high editorial standards and solicited guest contributors with meaningful scholarship and high-impact positions in order to increase online presence, drive traffic and generate revenue.

What I did:
As Social Media, Website, & Listserv Manager of Women in French (WIF), a national organization with international affiliations, I updated all website pages, coordinate listserv subscriptions and messages, and managed the social media channels in Twitter and Facebook.

Most recently, I proposed and co-wrote WIF's Statement Against Racist Violence in response to continued police brutality against black individuals and people of color. You can read it by clicking on the image above.
Why I did it:
To promote research on women writing in French and on women in literature and culture of French expression, and to end gendered and racial oppression.

Impact:
My development of social media content has contributed to a 25% increase in membership registration (April 2019 to June 2019). I have also increased the number of original tweets and retweets, which generated an 87% increase in profile visits and 33% increase in mentions (May to June 2020).
