Grants
What I did:
Organized a week-long program with 2 colleagues across 3 institutions to generate cultural comparisons of visual and literary representations of Black womanhood in France and in the US. Obtained total of $5,000 in grant (Mellon Partners in Humanities Education) and departmental financial support (Vanderbilt University) to invite a scholar for a cross-campus screening and discussion. Served as co-writer of grant proposal and sole writer of report.
Why I did it:
To consider the ways in which literature and art respond to structural and social injustices and to encourage students to create their own similar visual and oral testimonies.
Impact:
Generated cumulative audience of 150+ and strengthened university curriculum by inviting professors to include the program as part of their courses.
You can read more about the event in my blog post to the right.
The grant proposal and report are available upon request (rk.bostow@gmail.com).
